Ben from Seattle writes with a tale of possible Life After Death:
“A few years ago, my father had a bad case of pneumonia, and his doctor had let our family know that he was probably not going to pull through. (Dad was 81.) My dad was in pretty good spirits, though. He told us that he was happy with the life he’d lived, and was not afraid of the other side.
“That’s the thing: he believed strongly in the other side. He wasn’t really a religious man, but he was convinced that there was life after death. The only question in his mind was whether you lived forever in a spirit form, or whether you were eventually reborn here on Earth (or elsewhere).
“So when we were spending a lot of time with Dad in those last days, we got to talking about this, and he brought up the idea that he would try to give us a sign that he was ok. ‘You know,’ he would say, ‘like a familiar knock, or something like that.’ He said he’d try to make sure we would recognize it was him.
“It was about a week later when Dad took a turn for the worse, and he passed on. We in the family had forgotten all about the conversations we’d had, what with having to arrange for the funeral and the casket and hosting the reception at the old house — Mom was not really in a condition to make those arrangements, so it fell on us kids.
“Maybe a couple of weeks after all that, a few of us were sitting around in the family room (Mom always called it the Parlor), and we heard this music playing. Turns out it was this music box that Dad had given Mom years before. It started playing by itself — but it hadn’t worked in over 20 years.
“I never really took my Dad’s afterlife stuff very seriously before that, but I don’t know what to think now. I cannot tell you how that music box started playing. It hasn’t played since. Maybe Dad has moved on to his next life.”
