Do you know the difference between a squirrel and an orangutan?

Squirrel Orangutan

Apparently, Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission officials do not.

A homeowner in Baker County in north Florida reported seeing a three to four-foot tall “great ape” in a “nest” about “100 feet” up a tree in his backyard. Responding Animal Control personnel described it as an orangutan:

“We got the binoculars and could see the whole body of the ape. He was red with a lighter color face,” Thomas said. [Tina Thomas, Animal Control agent]

The creature was lured down by a box of jelly owners the homeowner left, but no one saw the ape steal the goods. Subsequent reports have placed the creature all over the area, but no one has captured it…even on film.

To cap off the weirdness, speculation about the creature has ranged from “baby Bigfoot” to state officials suggesting it is merely an “orange-phase” squirrel.

A 3-to-4 foot tall squirrel. You sure it’s not a mangy bear?

I wonder why the Florida Wildlife Commision hasn’t mentioned that Orange Phase Fox Squirrells are not nocturnal either. Smells like a cover up to me!
