Agent Zero here. I think sightings made by children are probably more reliable than those from adults; as a kid, you have a clarity of sight and an unbiased perception that you don’t easily conjure up when you’re fully grown. In this report, Ian from Fort Bragg, CA tells us about a fateful run-in with a sasquatch he had as a child.
“I always feel a little weird talking about this, but it really happened and I remember it pretty well.
“When I was five years old, my family and a couple of other families went camping in the Klamath area of Northern California. So I was pretty young, and we weren’t supposed to wander very far from camp. But I was the youngest kid there, and the other kids kind of left me on my own. I remember the adults, the ones who weren’t my family, were nice enough to me, but I wasn’t having a very good time. I missed my toys.
“So I did wander away from camp one morning. We weren’t very far from a river. This was a smaller river than the Klamath, just some tributary or something. I went and sat on the bank, which, now that I think about it, would’ve freaked my mom out if she’d known. I was sitting there for a long time, or at least it seemed like it was a long time. I was five, so it was probably ten minutes or something.
“I just remember staring at the trees on the other side of the river. The forest is really dense up there. I don’t exactly know why I was looking at this one tree in particular. I guess I thought there was something strange about it. When you’re a little kid, a lot of things can seem strange. The trunk looked different?
“Anyway, I didn’t stare at it all that long. I just noticed it.
“It was right around then that part of the trunk stood up and walked away on two legs.
“I was looking right at it when it happened, and it only took me a second to realize that this wasn’t the trunk. Something had been crouched in front of the trunk, something that was close to the same color as the tree.
“I know today that I saw Sasquatch. I’d never heard of it when I saw this. It was just this ‘thing’ that stood up and walked off into the woods. It was the color of the bark, and I could tell that it was covered with hair. It looked like a man, and at first I thought it probably was a man, but its face was all wrong. It looked more like something I’d seen at the zoo than a man.
“This all happened in a matter of seconds, from when it stood up to when it walked out of sight. I heard it step on some twigs, and the snap echoed pretty loud. It didn’t seem like it knew I was there. It didn’t look my way, and it didn’t act like it was in a hurry.
“What it looked like. Well, besides the hair, I noticed that its arms were really long, which is another reason I knew it wasn’t a man. Looking at it just made me uncomfortable, like I was seeing something I wasn’t supposed to.
“I don’t remember either way if there was a smell of any kind. I’ve heard they really reek.
“Anyway, for a while I thought maybe the other adults might be playing some kind of joke on me. I went back to camp, and everyone was there, all the adults. They were working on lunch, and there was no way they had been out across the river orchestrating some elaborate hoax on a tiny kid.
“So I didn’t say anything. I didn’t really tell the story at all until I was in sixth grade and my whole class was really into bigfoot. I told a few people then, and some of them believed me. But it’s not really something I talk about much. I mean, people just don’t know what to say except ‘wow, ok’.
“One more thing. I wish I’d had the common sense to get across the river and look for footprints. But that didn’t even occur to me. And I don’t know if I could’ve gotten across there anyway.”
