Blackwater is now the largest mercenary army in the world. It was started by an ultra-conservative End Times Christian. It has its own air force and navy, and a good deal of support from extreme right-wing evangelical organizations. Blackwater has started patrolling America and is opening a second base in southern California.
Left Behind: Eternal Forces is a videogame for PCs in which you force people to convert to Christianity at gunpoint (or, if they opt out, kill them point-blank).
Which led me to wonder: do you see a connection?
My paranoia knows no bounds, but I don’t think I’m that far out on a limb here. The very existence of a huge private military run by a guy who believes that Armageddon is due any day now is frightening. The Left Behind videogame gives us insight into how the evangelicals think (including, one would imagine, GWB).
I believe the Rapture Right is capable of logical thinking. Ask yourself: if you genuinely believed that Jesus was coming back to exact his retribution on the unbelieving world, and that Armageddon was part of that end game, what would you do? Maybe help things along in the Middle East where the War is supposed to go down? “Help” Americans (God’s other chosen people) get ready for the Second Coming (at gunpoint if necessary)? Do these things really sound crazy if you accept the (crazy) premise?
I’ll quit fooling around and ask it: is Bush planning to use Blackwater’s “tribulation” forces to install Christo-fascist rule over America? Will it be “convert or die”?

Before you scoff at me, take a look at this interview and ask yourself whether Blackwater’s chief believes he’s running Jesus’ military wing. Or the, uh, “sword of his mouth”. Onward, Christian soldiers.
