This just in front New Scientist, the respected science journal: the UK has released secret government files that show, among other things, that US fighter planes tried to shoot down a UFO over England that moved erratically and showed up on radar like “a flying aircraft carrier”.

So obviously this shouldn’t be covered in mainstream news. And no, no, no, it doesn’t mean anything that our flyboys tried to shoot down a bogey the size of a city. I mean, it happened, but it didn’t really, you know what I mean? It doesn’t fit into our conventional framework of Reality™, so it was … a misunderstanding, or a fluke. Swamp gas. Had to be.

So we are still able to declare: there is not one shred of evidence, not even a hint, that we are being visited. You’ll only hear that kind of crap from nut jobs.

It’s mid-afternoon here at the West Coast Monitoring Facility, and we’re missing a lot of things in Alabama that we expected today. You know: fingers pointing up to the heavens, massive traffic jams, TV punditry, TV preachers, Air Force attacks, UFO cult suicides. That’s right: the mothership has failed to reveal itself.

We never pretended to believe, which is why Area51.Org has spent so much time covering Steve Fossett and Bush’s upcoming third term. An Aussie with the unfortunate moniker of Blossom Goodchild predicts the coming of the mothership? Blogga, please. That’s not how it will happen. Chances are the real proof that we are being visited will show up someday, but not in a grandiose rah-rah debut worthy of a lavish broad musical.

Save yourself some time and trouble by reading this post before you download the 77-page MUFON report about the January 8, 2008 incident occurring between 6:30 and 9 p.m. in the Dublin-Stephenville area of north Texas. Witnesses claimed to have seen an absolutely silent, extraordinarily large craft (perhaps up to 1000 feet in size) moving at incredible speeds (estimated 2000 mph — yes, that’s two THOUSAND). MUFON investigators Glen Schulze and Robert Powell reviewed radar reports from five sites and compared them to eyewitness testimony. MUFON submitted ten separate FOIA requests to gather the data, and obtained “precise information on the location of all military and commercial aircraft in the airspace of interest at all times during 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.” They sifted through the radar data (2.8 million radar returns from the FAA alone) and reviewed testimony from seventeen eyewitnesses (a very large number given the narrow window of observation). Witnesses included a constable, chief of police, private pilot, and a former air traffic controller.

The huge, bright object displayed behavior typical of many sightings: unbelievably rapid acceleration and deceleration, hovering and sudden trajectory changes. Interestingly, the object traveled on a direct course towards Crawford and the “western White House” Bush ranch, approaching within 10 miles of the ranch at its closest — all without a required transponder. Right, wrong or indifferent, it’s not exactly comforting to know that a radar-confirmed object without a transponder was on its way to a sensitive target without any military response despite the fact that military aircraft where flying maneuvers in the immediate vicinity. (NOTE: the president was not at the ranch on this date).

Even less reassuring is the conclusion by MUFON that military activity in the area was unusually heavy that evening. At one point, F-16s flew within a mile of the object. No voice recordings from the jets were available via FOIA requests, but the F-16s did not appear to respond to the object in any way despite the fact that the object was clearly visible on radar. Tellingly, military aircraft twice veered out of Military Training Routes and into civilian airspace over Stephenville during the sighting interval. No explanation has yet to be provided by Carswell AFB.

More questions than answers? The missing puzzle pieces might have been found in the remaining reports requested by MUFON’s unanswered FOIA requests. It seems that obfuscation continues to be the norm with the US government.

Really? Havana? I thought he’d be here in Vegas…

Jude Law had an unexpected birthday guest at his 35th birthday bash at Havana – late singer Frank Sinatra.

The British actor claims that he had a vision of Sinatra raiding his mini-bar in his suite at Havana’s celebrity-infested Hotel Nacional de Cuba on Dec 29.

Apparently, Law was staying at the same suite, which Sinatra used to request during his Cuban jaunts.

“Jude had no idea that Frank used to stay in the same room. You could see he was really spooked by his sighting,” the Daily Star quoted a hotel source, as saying.

“He’d sampled lots of the hotel’s rum cocktails to celebrate his birthday so he thought it was just a drunken vision. But when we told him of the situation, he came clean about seeing the ghost.

“He swore he saw Frank crouched at the mini-bar, rummaging through the bottles and snacks,” the source added.

The insider said that Jude was so shaken after the incident that he requested for a new room. [Courtesy: ANI]

And you’re telling me he can’t find anything better to do in the afterlife? I’d figure he’d have a perpetually stocked minibar of his own behind the pearly gates.

Well, the drivel appeared on teh b00b t00b last night, and was pretty much panned in the media. The show itself may be cheezy to the extreme, but what makes us laff is still Buell. I guess every era needs a P.T. Barnum., right?
