Go Out of Your Mind (and Body)
For the first time ever, scientists have been able to induce out-of-body-experiences (OBEs) in healthy human laboratory subjects. The researcher was able able to use visual and physical cues to confuse the brain about the body’s location, thus separating ghost from machine. The intent of the study is not so much to examine OBEs as it is to understand the way that the mind models the body and its relationship to the world around it. Whether the experience is used to torture or delight, it seems as though it would definitely open the doors of perception–and let the disembodied self walk right on through.
Seems like another case of science finally catching up to the paranormal.
