“Tom” wrote to us with a report of something I’d never heard of before — people are seeing pterodactyls! That’s right — the flying dinosaurs. The ones that are supposed to have gone extinct over 65 million years ago.
Here’s Tom’s report:
“Agent Zero, I have a report for you. This is something that I have not told many people about. My family and some friends, but that’s about it. Everyone I have told thinks I am probably crazy or was just seeing things.
“See, back in 1993, I think I saw a pterodactyl.
“Call me Tom. In the early 1990s I was living in Adelaide, South Australia. I’m an American, but I had a job there for a few years. I wanted to live somewhere else for a while.
“Anyway, I had a girlfriend named Chelsea who was originally from Brisbane. We drove from Perth out to Western Australia, because we wanted to drive around and see the outback. I ended up taking my car — a ’68 Mustang that had the conversion to right-side steering — and the two of us took turns driving all the way from Adelaide to Perth.
“We stopped a bunch of times along the way. It’s a long drive, kind of like if you were to drive across the U.S. Most of the drive on the first leg is along the ocean, and even though you can’t see the ocean the whole time, it’s still nice. Chelsea and I were getting along really well at that point, so it was a lot of fun and still a great memory.
“One of the main stops we made was out in gold country in a town called Kalgoorlie, which is a tourist destination but still cool. Lots of old buildings and good pubs. We stayed the night there for two nights.
“On the road to Perth, we would stop to look at scenery etc. It’s about a nine-hour drive on the Great Eastern Highway but we had to give up the idea of making it in one day. We’d already had to stop and camp because we were just too tired to drive, and so we pitched a tent not far outside of Yellowdine.
“That’s where I had the sighting. We stopped at about 6PM, ate, set up the tent, and Chelsea crashed. She’d done the last part of the driving and was just exhausted. I was up still and wanted to see the sun go down.
“This area is really flat and the sky is huge and clear. When I first saw the “bird” it looked like an airplane, far away. We hadn’t noticed very many airplanes out here so I thought it was odd that one was flying low to the ground, maybe a couple hundred feet. It was flying my direction and as it got nearer to me, I noticed that the wings were actually flapping gently. So obviously this was no airplane.
“Its color was a dark tan. It made no sound. It was getting closer and I remember thinking that maybe this is some kind of weird outback bird I’d never heard of, which I could believe, but this thing had a wingspan that looked about maybe 15 or 20 feet. It got close enough to where we were that I could see that it looked leathery and had no feathers at all.
“Well at this point I’m thinking that this is some kind of device, like the one that the hermit professor flies in War Games if you’ve seen that. But I knew there was no way because we were literally out in the middle of nowhere. And no one knew we were out here.
“Of course it didn’t occur to me to dig out the camera. I was just standing there staring. And I didn’t try to wake up Chelsea, either. The more I stared at it, the more I wanted to understand what it was I was seeing.
“It didn’t quite pass over my head, but it wasn’t very far away. I could see the shadow on the ground. It never made a noise.
“That’s about the whole thing. I told Chelsea all about it the next morning, and she didn’t really believe me. I didn’t talk about it much after that.
“Since then, I’ve started looking for info on the internet about this kind of thing, and apparently in Papua New Guinea, which is way up northeast from where we were, they have a legendary bird-reptile they call the Ropen. People have seen these things often enough in modern times, and I’m convinced that that’s what I saw.
“I definitely didn’t imagine it.”

I saw one too as a 8 year old girl. I was playing outside in Garden City, Kansas when I do not remember how it caught my attention but I looked up and there it was. It was huge it reminded me of a small plane. By then we had learned our dinosaurs in school already and I quickly thought of a Pterodactyl. The bird looked all black was gliding very graceful and had a tail with a point at the tip. I couldn’t believe it and have only told a few people. I really can’t believe it myself but I know what I saw. I remember being in complete awe, it didn’t even occur to me to get someone so they could see too. Then earlier today my brother and I were talking about things people say they see like the chupacabras, bigfoot, and nessie. So I decided to tell him and I didn’t remember this but he said he saw it too! He said he was outside with me and my uncle who is my age when it happened. I felt so good that I hadn’t imagined this that this is real. I wish I had solid evidence. I am so glad that I am not alone though I have looked it up and apparently there have been many sightings. I hope someone is able to take a picture of one someday.

On the way to Elgin IL at about 4:30pm in the summer of ’05 I saw what I initially thought was a large black bird flying over the Kennedy Expressway.
I could not explain the thing I saw, it had broad wings like a bat and a long spiked tail.

i had a nightmare bout a day ago and a demon was talking to me and its head was like a Pterodactyl’s head except its body was the shape of a human but really old. im trying to find out what it was and why it was there

I interview people who have seen obvious apparent-living-pterosaurs. Over several years (and after writing two books about live pterosaurs) I am convinced that most of the eyewitnesses have seen actual creatures and that those creatures are descended from those that have left us fossils. I pray more I-witnesses come out of the closet. I am beginning to think that the lie of evolution is so strong that people who have seen dinosaurs will not tell any one becuase of the fear of ridicule.

Ok, no one ever believed me about this but here goes. Brownsville, Texas about 1995, I figure. Well, when I was about 11-12 yrs old I went outside around late morning to see why our dog hadn’t touched her dog food and I couldn’t find her. I looked all around our backyard which wasn’t monstrous in size so it would be easy to find her. I found her cowering around the side of our house as low as she could get behind a banana tree or two. I called her name and tried to get her to come out but she stayed quiet and looked really weird. I got scared immediately that she was sick and was about to run inside to wake my mom to tell her when I heard I weird noise that made me turn my head. In the open backyard next door was what looked like a 9 or 10 ft tall man (not sure but he was taller than the roof of the house next door) draped in a long black coat or cape, looking away from me…I thought of dracula and then the man turned and I realized that this man didnt have a face like a man at all! I froze in fear trying to figure out what I was staring at. Then slowly I watched what looked like disgusting black leathery (and almost shimmery like they were wet) bat-like wings unwrap from around the man and almost lay on the ground in a weird manner at a point as if they were too heavy for the man to carry. I was so scared and then I noticed a bird-like leg come down and realized this “thing” had kind of been perched on one leg like a heron would and so my mind said it must be a strange species of blue heron which I had heard where rather large. The strange bird stared right at me with its large black eyes and walked closer to me (it had been about 40 ft away maybe) slowly and in an add manner. Something apparently caught its attention and it turned its head at an angle to listen and thats when I realized the shape of its head and that it somehow looked like a pteradactyl. I thought that was crazy and when it turned its head back to me I began walking slowly back to my house backwards and then the thing appeared to just lift off the ground and it swooped, only it looked like it was floating, gliding at me and I ran into my house and slammed the sliding glass door behind me and caught the shadow of its profile in the window facing that side of the house as I’m assuming it glided right up and over the house. I ran and told my mom and I was crying hysterically and shaking and my little sis got scared and said she saw the shadow in the window too. Well, my parents never believed me. They thought I had made it up! My dad showed me pictures of blue herons and how big they could get, but they looked nothing like what I had seen! And eventually I put it at the back of my mind because anytime I had mentioned it people would laugh, as if to say oh aren’t kids just so creative! But it was a pteradactyl. It had a stump looking thing on the top of its head that was kind of long and a long kind of pointed and slightly slanted beak thing, that was also dark blackish-greyish colored. It’s wing span was about the length of the side of the neighbors house so, maybe 30 ft? All I know is that it was the scariest thing I had ever seen and actually made afraid of the movie Jeepers Creepers. Also, there was this weird old man who lived in a house behing the neighbors ans he had every window and entrance to his house boarded up and one time when I went to sell girl scout cookies at his house, he told me to go away before the bird gets me…that was about 2 yrs before I saw the pteradactyl creature. So I guess he has seen it and maybe been driven mad by it, cause his 20 yr old son, who would go by his house to drop off food said that his dad was just crazy and talked about aliens and creatures but that he was harmless. Two yrs later I learned the truth of what had driven him mad, or rather to fear.

This makes me seriously wonder how many people have seen similar, but do not talk about it.
They cannot prove it, and would put them in position of defending their statement, and probably a fair amount of ridicule.
We need more people to speak openly about sitings.

I saw a pterodactyl in the late 80′s, I was driving with my boyfriend down a country road in a little town called Dansville , Quebec, Canada. It was very big it’s wing span was as large as the road, it was feeding off a garbage bag, we stopped the car on the side of the road to have a closer look but it disappeared into the forest which was surprising considering the size. I am so happy to find out I am not alone

On the eve of the Lunar Eclipse on June 26, 2010 at 11:15PM I was driving on Rt 309 just outside of Kenton Ohio, perfectly clear night and very bright outside due to the full moon and I had a creature swoop down and glide over my hood of my car. It glided smoothly and looked like a Pterodactyl and I thought to myself “what the H _ ll was that !” and watched it as it smoothly flew into a thick area of trees,. Because of the full moon of that eve I could see it remarkably clear and it was very close to my car.. It was very eerie and on a night of an eclipse to boot.. Sent shivers over me and I thought this is not a bird and do birds come out at night and are they as large as that if they did? and it did not flap its wings as I saw it, it was just flowing in a smooth glide and very slow ….. I’m not sure where to report it though. Is there a society to contact to report this to. My daughter when I picked her up said my face was in shock and I told her and she said she saw a show on history channel or discovery channel that mentioned folks were seeing flying creatures like this and I had used the “Pterodactyl” word, almost embarrassed to use it to describe it, and I told her it looked like a little smaller version of the one off Jurassic Park Movie, but huge just the same. She said to me when I told her this that the show used the Pterodactyl name as well by witnesses and then I knew I wasn’t crazy for saying it. This is in Ohio. Take care, Jewels

I was in a seafood restaurant and my waitress said she saw a pterodactyl flying alongside her car on I-75 outside Atlanta around 8:30 pm one summer night in 2010. She called her mother on her cellphone and her mother said to take a picture but she said it was too dark. She said it looked like a “mutated” pterodactyl because it was huge and was flying very fast and had a body about at least 5-6 feet long and a strange, long sloping beak but she felt sure it had feathers. She said even with her car windows closed she could hear it was making a high pitched squealing noise and that she was driving very fast maybe close to 80 mph and it was keeping up with her. She knows it sounds crazy but she swears its true. She wasnt drinking or on drugs. Her name is Sarah.

I saw a pterodactyl twice in the space of about a week in High Wycombe, England, around1993/94. The first time it flew directly over my head whilst walking my dog, I got a really good look at it, and to be honest, I didn’t know what it was. Whatever it was, It was a creepy looking thing that lacked any feathers whatsoever, and was a lot bigger than any bird you see flying around this area.
A few days later I was watching the tele when, what seemed to me to be the same creature, flew straight out of the woods opposite my house then dived towards my front garden and up and away!

I saw one flying over the beach area in Freeport Grand Bahamas in 2005. We owned a timeshare there at Island Seas Resort and I saw this creature flying over in the morning. I have maintained from the beginning that it was a pterodactyl, though many people don’t or won’t believe this: if I hadn’t seen it myself I wouldn’t have believed it either. They DO exist!

I saw what I believe to be a Pteradactyl a few weeks ago. I live in Adelaide Sth. Australia,… two weeks ago I arrived home from work, a Wednesday arvo about 2.30pm. As usual I made a coffee and stepped out the back… it was very overcast but nor raining.
At first at around 500 meters away at around 500 meters in height, I saw what I initially thought to be a Pelican… it is just gliding, then it moved through the clouds at which point I was able to discern its distance and what it was.
After thinking Pelican – Glider – Kite this thing had a wing span as large as a house and it was a Pteradactyl!!!! Sound ridiculous… I am have only told very few, as it sounds mad! I cannot believe what I saw!!!!
II was in the Army dong Surface to Air Missile Systems and one of my specialties was aircraft identification!!!… it did not include extremely large birds!
I had seen it occur on youtube videos, seems in Brazil… but this is in ADELAIDE…

I saw a pteradactyl in the summer of 1985 in northern Illinois. I was driving with my adult cousin as my passenger, entering some freeway. The pterodactyl was standing in the ditch, facing the road, with its wings partly outstretched. I saw the long beak and the claws halfway down its wings. It was a leathery brown and had no feathers, but I could see the outline of bones in its wings. I immediately hit the brakes and pulled over, putting the car in reverse. As I did, I realized my cousin was staring at me with her mouth hanging open saying “Did you just..was that a…did you see…?” I backed down the shoulder of the highway and got about 20 yards away from the pteradactyl when it flew off, directly away from the highway. It was huge. I completed my cousin’s sentence “…pteradactyl!” and she said “YES! One of those!” We watched it fly away and then just sat there with the car running, saying nothing, for a good five minutes. I have since researched every North American species of bat, crane, and heron, and nothing comes even close to what we saw that day. Until I found this site, I had no idea that anyone else had ever seen one.

It’s crazy that others have seen this too… Houston texas around 97-98, I was watching tv one night and we had the couch against a glass sliding door that led out to our 2nd story balcony, the curtain of said door was drawn open and as I lay there I don’t remember why exactly but I felt inclined to look behind me and I saw what appeared to be a pterodactyl glaring through the glass back at me like a foot or two away, Had sort of a boxier shaped jaw like the pokemon “aerodactyl”??? (slightly different than the other decriptions I’ve read), had the long tail, featherless wings and all that… I distinctly remember this thing not making a damn sound either, quiet as could be… I jerked my head down being scared half to death and in tears (7-8 years old) and turned off the tv, when I got the courage to look again it was gone… My mother who I woke shortly after told me it was either my imagination or a demon (pentecostal upbringing, haha) but I know for a fact that I stared directly at the scariest ____ I’ve ever seen and wont soon forget… I always thought it may have been attracted to the television light reflecting through the glass door that attracted it as we lived in an otherwise dark area but who knows…
