Agent Zero here. If you’ve ever awoken from a dream and thought you saw something that could not be, then you know how Luis from Fresno, CA feels. Luis sends us this account of a strange desert dream he had while he was wide awake:
“The rumbling of the engine in the old Dodge Dart was soothing, but I woke up anyway. I peered out the windshield and saw … pyramids?
“I was about 8 years old. My grandparents were driving me to see my Uncle in Vegas, and I was sleeping in the back seat. It was late at night. We were in the desert somewhere, Death Valley, I think — big emptiness. We had been driving for hours, though. I’d been asleep for a long time.
“My eyes were still blurry, and when I saw the lights, I thought they were on the dashboard. But they were too high to be on the dashboard. I squinted. No, there were lights way out ahead of us, blinking lights. Then the shapes started coming into focus — I was looking at pyramids, and they were upside-down.
“They were sort of a pale gold, and they seemed reflective. They seemed far away, so I can’t say how big they were, but my impression was that they were huge. Huge inverted pyramids with yellow blinking lights. They glowed. We were headed right for them.
“I started to say, ‘Grandpa … ‘ and I heard both my grandparents gasp.
“My grandma turned around and snapped at me: ‘Go back to sleep!’ And my grandpa told me not to say another word.
“That was strange, because they never raised their voices at me at all. They were super-nice people. This was the only time they were ever mean to me.
“Anyway, I did what they told me to do, although I wish I had stayed awake. I don’t know if I could have, though. The desert makes you really sleepy.
“There’s one more thing that makes this story weird. My grandpa was always saying that we were descended directly from the Mayans. I’m not sure how he thought he knew this. But weren’t the Mayans the ones with the pyramids?”
