Ryan BuellFrom the network that brings you “Dog the Bounty Hunter” and “Gene Simmons Family Jewels”, A&E TV has a new show that just might interest some of our readers. “Paranormal State“, debuting in December, promises to be a riveting half-hour series “chronicling the extraordinary life of Ryan Buell and other members of the Penn State University Club The Paranormal Research Society (PRS) as they seek to find the truth behind terrifying real life mysteries, hauntings and ghosts.”

College kids and ghosts? How can you go wrong. Buell even looks like a poor man’s David Boreanaz. Just throw in some lissome co-eds and the requisite spooks and scares, and you’ve got a ratings bonanza in the making (at least for something on A&E).

Ryan BuellTo be fair, this is NOT research being done by Penn State faculty (or even officially sanctioned by the University as such). This is simply a student organization on campus, with approved status (most likely for facility use and possible funding). And the kid’s rhetoric is WAY over-the-top: “BUILDING AN EMPIRE: the creation of PRS, and a new generation of paranormal investigators”. Blogger, please.

That being said, I’ve got to give credit to Buell for putting the thing together, running investigations and cutting a deal with A&E. Plus he has a nice little quote from Dune on the web site, from the Bene Gesserit fear litany, and the club logo contains the all-seeing eye of horus. Maximum geek appeal? Natch.
